“Greek Cypriot Spokesperson makes unfounded accusations with unrealistic statements”

President Mustafa Akıncı met for dinner with Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades and UN Secretary General Special Adviser Espen Barth Eide in the buffer zone on Sunday, April 2. During the event, the two leaders exchanged ideas regarding the negotiation process.

The two sides mutually agreed that the sole statement regarding the discussions and results would be made by Mr. Eide. According to the agreement, the two sides have committed not to make any other statement apart from that.

Nonetheless, Nicos Christodoulides, Spokesperson of the Greek Cypriot Administration has been making unrealistic statements to various media organs during the day starting from early hours of the morning and despite the mutual agreement reached, he has been making unfounded accusations against our President.

As a matter of our President Mustafa Akıncı’s respect towards the consensus reached before UNSG Special Advisor Espen Barth Eide, we limit our response only to saying that these accusations are not true.

As the Turkish Cypriot side, our aim is to immediately reach a bi-communal, bi-zonal federal solution which will ensure safety, equality, freedom and tranquility of both communities, respecting the agreements reached.
