President Akıncı delivers a speech at the meeting of the Socialist International Council
President Mustafa Akıncı delivered a speech at the meeting of the Socialist International Council held at the UN Headquarters in New York, upon the invitation of the President of the Socialist International, former Prime Minister of Greece and former PASOK Leader George Papandreou.
President Akıncı was welcomed by the President of the Socialist International Papandreou and the Secretary-General of the Socialist International Luis Ayala. During his speech, President Akıncı addressed to the heads of the member states and governments of the Socialist International and he briefed them on Cyprus issue and the latest developments.
Stating that in order not to prolong the process for another 50 years, President Akıncı underlined that there is a need for clarity by noting that a well-defined, well-structured, planned and non-open results-oriented process is required. Indicating this requirement is also included in the reports of the UN Secretary-General, President Akıncı stated that the international community should also facilitate the matter.
