President Akıncı makes phone calls regarding the crossing points between the two sides
President Akıncı made telephone conversation separately with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) in Cyprus and Head of UNFICYP Elizabeth Spehar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Kudret Özersay and Greek Cypriot Leader Nicos Anastasiades.
President Mustafa Akıncı made phone calls regarding the crossing points between the two sides in the afternoon today.
President Akıncı spoke separately with the UN Secretary General's Special Representative in Cyprus and UN Goodwill Mission Chief Elizabeth Spehar, TRNC Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kudret Özersay and Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Anastasiades.
During his phone call with Anastasiades, President Akıncı also discussed the issue of the Lokmacı crossing point.
President Akıncı stated that all crossing points should be opened gradually by paying attention to what health professionals say and by taking necessary measures.
President Akıncı informed Nicos Anastasiades in regards of the Yeşilırmak crossing point, which has been the expectation of the Greek Cypriot side, that it will be opened by the end of the week.
During his phone meeting with the Greek Cypriot Leader, President Akıncı underlined that both sides are in the process of expanding trade because of that reason, attention and measures should be intensified in air and sea ports.
Greek Cypriot leader mentioned their concern about the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Turkey and indicated their annoyance about epidemiological report which the Turkish Cypriot side has not yet presented to the Bi-communal Technical Committee on Health.
President Akıncı will continue to meet with the Greek Cypriot Leader in the upcoming days to open all crossing points according to the developments.
