President Akıncı: The Greek Cypriot side’s insistence on prerequisite has been communicated to us today as their official stance. We will not accept prerequisites.
“As of today, we have been communicated that the Greek Cypriot leader’s insistence on prerequisites is the official stance of the Greek Cypriot side,” said President Akıncı. “We are not in a position to accept prerequisites.”
President Akıncı stated the following:
“Mr. Anastasiades today clearly conveyed to us that his attitude will not alter. In his speech last night, he has clarified this stance. However, today we are communicated that being persistent on prerequisites is the official stance of the Greek Cypriot side,” stated President Akıncı. “We are not in a position to accept prerequisites.”
“Unfortunately, the Greek Cypriot leader maintains his stance which he seems to exclude from all agreements until today,” he said.
President Akıncı further continued:
“He wishes to fully eliminate the principle of discussing all issues interrelatedly as agreed on February 11, 2014 and primarily conclude the security and guarantees chapter. After this, he will move on to the maps locked in our cases and finalise the territory chapter. Then we can look at other outstanding chapters. Such an understanding in the negotiations is out of question”.
Responding to a question of a journalist this morning during a meeting, President Akıncı said:
“We are committed to the agreement in which all matters are to be discussed interrelatedly and we are ready to go to Geneva in order to negotiate all issues and to remain there until a solution is found. We obviously do not consent to a negotiations process under preconditions.”
He continued as follows:
“The stance of Mr. Anastasiades contradicts with all agreements, primarily with the conference declaration on 12 January, which was declared by the signatures of all related parties. Unfortunately, Eide's efforts did not yield a result because Mr. Anastasiades continues his same stance. "
