34. Bosphorus Intercontinental Swimming Race champion Doğukan Ulaç and successful swimmers visit the Presidency

President Ersin Tatar received Turkish Cypriot Doğukan Ulaç – who became champion in the men’s category of the 34. Bosphorus Intercontinental Swimming Race and other successful swimmers.

President Ersin Tatar commended Turkish Cypriot Doğukan Ulaç, who swam to championship in the men’s category of the 34. Bosphorus Intercontinental Swimming Race.
 
The President also congratulated Mert Türksoy, the youngest Turkish Cypriot swimmer who participated in the Race and Nermin Ulaç,  the first Turkish Cypriot female to have  taken part.  
 
The President, who commended the swimmers for successfully representing the TRNC, stated that Doğukan Ulaç had swam to another “historic success by finishing first in the Race”. Organisers said 2,441 swimmers had taken part in the competition from different countries of the world, under the slogan “Sports for Everyone”.  The competition was organised by the Turkish Olympic Committee.
 
Also attending the visit to the Presidency was the North Cyprus Aquatic Sports Federation President Ender Yeşilyurt.
The young swimmers were welcomed to the Presidency with applause by awaiting staff as they walked through the gates and into the grounds of the Presidency.
 
President Tatar said: “Your achievements and your successes have made us proud. You have represented and promoted the TRNC to the world following hard work and training.”
 
The President added that he had witnessed the “intensive training and preperations” by Doğukan and TRNC based swimmers for the competition, and he also congratulated the coaches and the federation.
 
President Tatar emphasised the importance of motivating the youth towards taking up swimming as a professional sports career, and drew attention on the need to have a proper olympic size indoor swimming pool in the TRNC that can be used across all seasons.
 
Pointing out that there are successful athletes and swimmers in our country, President Tatar said he wishes  our youth to be more encouraged to take part in swimming and to participate in more international competitions.
 
President Tatar said: "I congratulate all of our athletes for this fantastic success that has been achieved despite the unjust isolation”.

First Lady Sibel Tatar also wished the swimmers  continuation with their successes, adding:  “You have made our country proud. You have made history. You are a shining example as to how success can be achieved through hard work and determination. We thank you and wish you future success in other international competitions. Your success is also the success of our country”.
Mrs Tatar also congratulated the families,  federation, coaches and to everybody who contributed greatly to the success of the athletes.
