Borrell congratulates President Tatar over the phone
High Representative/Vice-President of the EU Commission Josep Borrell gave a call to President Ersin Tatar and congratulated him on his election victory.
During the conversation, President Tatar stated that the Turkish Cypriot people empowered him for a reconciliation on the basis of sovereign equality and two states, including cooperation between the two sides and pointed out that the isolation and restrictions imposed on Turkish Cypriot people were unfair, adding the European Union did not do its part.
President Tatar emphasized that they expect the EU to fulfill its promises to lift the isolation within the framework of the decision taken in 2004. The President also noted that he would be pleased to meet with Borrell in the near future to explain his views and position in a more detailed way.
