First Lady Sibel Tatar visited Tatlısu Municipality, which is a candidate to be one of the biggest projects of our country in the field of environment and which has been determined as a pilot area for domestic waste and other waste sorting and recycling project under the auspices of the Presidency.
A greener, cleaner country
First Lady Sibel Tatar had the opportunity to see the natural, cultural and social wealth of Tatlısu, last week including where domestic wastes would be collected, sorted and recycled by the companies that would implement the project and to conduct on-site inspections. During the visit, she said: "Our goal is to leave permanent and beneficial projects to our country. The President and I attach great importance to environmental projects as well as social and cultural projects. The work that we carry out with our Tourism and Environment Committee is to make our country cleaner, greener and for our children to grow up with more environmental awareness.”
“We will follow the laws on the subject”
The Mayor of Tatlısu, Hayri Orçan supported the project which was originally Ms Tatar’s idea which has now become a reality.
On behalf of the President, herself and the Turkish Cypriot people, Ms. Sibel Tatar thanked the members of the Parliament, the officials of companies and the Mayor and citizens of Tatlısu for their contribution to this important work. She said that it is her greatest wish for this project to start from Tatlısu and spread to the entire TRNC. Stating that she will be monitoring the legal processes as the project continues, the First Lady emphasised that it is important for all stakeholders and the public to show sensitivity about the matter.
Ms. Sibel Tatar also expressed that even though she came because of the project, she is happy to have had the opportunity to visit Tatlısu, to see the beauties both natural and made by the municipality, and expressed that Minia Cyprus is a very beautiful place in terms of tourism. Sibel Tatar congratulated the mayor and officials for their services.
“We aim to set an example for the whole country”
In his speech, Tatlısu Mayor Hayri Orçan expressed his excitement for hosting such a beautiful project and thanked all those who contributed, especially President Ersin Tatar and his wife First Lady Sibel Tatar. Expressing that they aim to carry out the project successfully and to set an example for the whole country, Orçan said that household waste is now recycled throughout the world, and that some countries have achieved a great deal of success in their zero waste policy. Orçan said that he sincerely believes that the project will be successful and said, "I believe that we can create a greener, cleaner and more liveable country with such projects."
First Lady Sibel Tatar was accompanied by Prof.Dr. Tülen Saner, Chief Advisor to the President and General Coordinator of the Technical Committees, Tourism and Environment Committee Leader Prof. Dr. Özge Özden Fuller and Disabled People Committee Leader Ahmet Akdeniz.
