Informal dinner hosted by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for President Ersin Tatar and the Greek Cypriot Leader, Nicos Christodoulides, has come to an end

President Ersin Tatar has met with Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Christodoulides at an informal dinner hosted by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the UN Headquarters building in New York.
 
Answering questions of the press following the conclusion of the informal dinner, President Tatar stated that “many different issues” were discussed, as well as the unjust isolation and restrictions continuing to be imposed on the Turkish Cypriot People.
 
Stating that there is no change to the position of the Turkish Side, President Tatar reiterated that new and formal negotiations would not be started in the absence of the reaffirmation of the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot People and added:   “I have put forward a new vision, because federal-based negotiations, held for more than 50-years, have failed and is an exhausted basis.”
 
Stating that he will be meeting with the Greek Cypriot Leader, Nikos Christodoulides, in Cyprus to discuss the opening of new crossing points, the President added that an agreement was also reached for a broader meeting to be held under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General, with the participation of the Republic of Türkiye and Greece.
