President Tatar stated that the work to extinguish the fire, which has spread to different areas due to the windy conditions in the region, was being carried out in coordination with emergency units and organisations and members of the public “who are showing a great sense of unity and solidarity,” he said.

Pointing out that the relevant units of the State are “putting forward extraordinary efforts alongside the teams of the Forestry Department” to bring the fire under control, the President stated that equipment sent to the area by the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces Command and the Security Forces Command are also being utilised as part of the ongoing efforts to battle against the fire.
"Unmanned aerial vehicles dispatched from Türkiye are also being used,” the President added. “We will be able to determine the magnitude of the areas affected by the fire.”

President Tatar also expressed his gratitude to the Republic of Türkiye, the SBA and British authorities and the Greek Cypriot Administration for providing air support.

Emphasising that the village of Mersinlik was evacuated for precautionary purposes, President Tatar stated that the “fields in the region have been ploughed with the contributions of the mukhtars -- again as a precautionary measure, and that all emergency units and organisations are currently engaged on the ground in helping to extinguish the fire.”

“We are witnessing an intensive and overwhelming work being put forward by everybody in a show of great solidarity to protect our natural heritage,” the President said.
