President Ersin Tatar attended the 3rd Barrier-Free Blue event organised in cooperation with the Civil Defence Organization Presidency, TRNC Disabled Sports Federation and Cyprus Turkish Orthopaedic Disabled Association.
The event aims to bring people with physical disability together with scuba divers so that they can enjoy the natural and beautiful underwater environment. Experts trainers of the Underwater Search and Rescue Team of the Civil Defence Organisation informed the participants about scuba diving.
Delivering a speech at the event held at the Alsancak Civil Defence Social Facilities, President Ersin Tatar said he was happy to be participating in this event again a year later and underlined the importance of protecting our country and being a State in a spirit of unity and solidarity. Expressing the sensitivity of the Turkish Cypriots towards disabled people, President Tatar said that there are different organisations and efforts to protect our disabled people as much as possible. “I sincerely thank the organisers for this fantastic event. We are all one, we are together, life should be barrier-free. We are here to overcome obstacles," the President said.
President Tatar stated that the works are being carried out to ensure that disabled individuals are not isolated and remain connected to life around them. He noted that efforts are being carried forward with the support of our people to overcome the obstacles. Expressing that the Turkish Cypriot people are continuing to be inhumanely isolated from the rest of the world, the President added that “the struggle against this injustice is continuing. . .we are as a people continuing to strive to move forward and develop in different fields and sports branches by overcoming these obstacles”.
