PRESIDENT ERSIN TATAR ATTENDS THE SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE ORGANISED BY THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION KYRENIA BRANCH

President Ersin Tatar attended the Service of Remembrance where he laid a wreath in memory of the Turkish Cypriots who died whilst serving the Crown in the world wars as well as for British serviceman who were killed by the EOKA terrorist organisation between 1955 to 1959.
The Service, which was also attended by former British military officials, was organised by the Royal British Legion Kyrenia Branch (RBLK), and was held at the Old British Cemetery in Girne.
The President was welcomed by RBLK Chairman Graham Gardner and Vice Chairman Les Evans, and said he was “touched by the Service” which was conducted by The Reverend Michael Graham.
The President laid the wreath at the monument where, among others, the names of the 371 British servicemen, killed during the Cyprus Emergency by EOKA terrorists, are inscribed.
The President said he attended to “pay tribute to all of the servicemen and to the Turkish Cypriots who died during the world wars,” adding: “May humanity never again face such atrocities and may peace prevail through the cooperation of nations”.
Accompanying the President was the Turkish Cypriot Co-Chair of the Committee of Missing Persons in Cyprus, Hakkı Müftüzade, who also laid a wreath for the Cyprus Regiment.
The President was also accompanied by the Presidential Foreign Press Officer Kerem Haser.
