President Tatar addressed the 7th International Turkic World Tourism Congress, that is being held at Eastern Mediterranean University, between 21-25 May 2025.
Stating that this “prestigious organisation has an objective to further strengthen academic cooperation in the field of tourism in the Turkic World and to share new research,” President Tatar thanked all partner institutions, organisations and participants that have made valuable contributions to the congress.
Expressing his pride and happiness for hosting this important event as the TRNC, President Tatar stressed that “this congress offers a unique opportunity for the Turkic World to discover their potential and to become stronger in the field of tourism through cooperation”.
“Tourism is not only an economic sector, but also an important tool that strengthens cultural ties and encourages international cooperation”, President Tatar said. "One of the main goals of the congress is to examine how this sector can be used as a unifying force in the Turkic World," he added.
Stating that “areas with a rich cultural heritage should increase regional cooperation in order to develop and walk forward stronger with more confident steps”, President Tatar said: “We should work together with the Turkic World to further develop our cultural and economic relations by building on this rich heritage. The TRNC is a tourism country. Tourism is one of the leading locomotive sectors of our country. Our country has succeeded in becoming a brand name for tourism with her natural beauties, history and culture. Our country, which is known as the pearl of the Mediterranean, is blessed with an abundance of sunshine for most of the year and is renowned for its ,sea, sandy beaches and gastronomy.”
President Tatar stated that the TRNC, which has significant geopolitical and geostrategic importance, is an “inseparable and respected member of the Turkic World”, adding: “We are all working together to enhance the tourism aspects of our country to the world more effectively. We will continue on our path by promoting tourism and cultural riches of the TRNC by strengthening our ties with Türkiye, and through increasing communication and cooperation with different institutions and organisations.”
*Issue of Direct Flights*
In reference to the inhumane isolation of the Turkish Cypriot People, President Tatar said: “The isolation on our people is inhumane and should have no place in this day and age. The Turkish Cypriot People are entitled to enjoy direct flights to and from their own country with other destinations of the world. During the Annan Plan period in 2004, the international community had promised to end the isolation on our people, which has never come to fruition.”
President Tatar stated that there are “direct flights operating between different regions of Motherland Türkiye and the TRNC. The number of daily flights continues to increase. It is our greatest wish that this freedom will also be realised with the Turkic States. The honourable struggle of the Turkish Cypriot People as a free and sovereign people will continue despite the attempts of the Greek Cypriot Side to deepen the inhumane isolation on us.”
Emphasising the “importance of strengthening the ties across all levels between the TRNC and the Turkic World,” President Tatar said: “We are living in a global era where communications technology has advanced and has brought the world closer. It is necessary to walk towards the future confidently by using these technological advancements. Cooperation is vital in order to maximise our potential.”
President Tatar thanked Eastern Mediterranean University for hosting this “meaningful and important congress” and to all participants who have participated in and contributed to the event.
