President Ersin Tatar has inaugurated the “Sixth Fusion of Cultures Event” organised by the Municipality of İskele.

President Tatar, who paid tribute to the organisers and participants, said: “I am happy to see that there are stands from 21 different countries at the event.  We are firm believers in the peaceful coexistence of different countries and Peoples.   Diversity of cultures is what enriches mankind, that is what this fantastic event is celebrating today.  We are all able to taste and feel other cultural attributes.   The TRNC is being promoted on the international scale in this regard.”

“I wish to congratulate the Mayor of İskele, Hasan Sadıkoğlu, and his staff, for organising this event,” President Tatar said, pointing out that the İskele region, located on the eastern-side of the TRNC, has “developed with international investments,” and said that the “quality of life and enrichment of the cultural and social fabric of our society has also increased through these developments”.

Referring to the Cyprus issue, President Tatar said: “Highly mistaken are those who believe that the oppression and intimidation implemented by the Greek Cypriot administration will succeed to force the Turkish Cypriots to surrender.  I will put forward this issue at the informal dinner to be hosted later this month for myself and the Greek Cypriot leader, by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in New York.”

Stating that the “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, an independent Turkish State in the eastern Mediterranean, attributes great importance to people, civilisation and human rights,” President Tatar said that “people live in peace, tranquillity and security in the country”.
President Tatar pointed out a “humanitarian tragedy is taking place due to the war in Gaza and Lebanon, which is just over 100km in geographic distance from the Island of Cyprus,” adding: “When we witness the significant loss of life taking place in the Middle East, we as Turkish Cypriots appreciate the peace and prosperity that we are living in, following the Cyprus Peace Operation.”

Stating that foreign nationals residing in the TRNC are able to freely “celebrate their own culture and integrate with the hospitable Turkish Cypriot people”, President Tatar said: “With their trust in the State, their children are able to attend our schools and benefit from the services the State offers to its citizens. Turkish Cypriots are a peaceful and civilised people, who embrace other cultures and traditions. By sharing with different cultures, we are sending a message to the world, which is that Turkish Cypriots suffered in the past, however following the Peace Operation of 1974, we continue to embrace different cultures in a peaceful environment.”
