During the on-site visit, Mr Kuni also informed the President that TRNC police personnel are on 24-hour duty there, pointing out that there are three border staff cabins that are put into service according to demand with regards to vehicle crossings between the TRNC and South Cyprus.
The President was also briefed about the ongoing work to increase the capacity of car park spaces and widening of the existing road, which will contribute to quicker immigration checks and improve the efficiency of vehicle crossings – which will cut down long traffic queues.
The President was given information about the complaints of traffic congestion at Metehan, causing people to wait for hours to cross at times despite the measures taken by the TRNC Police Directorate, and told that this was a direct result of the Greek Cypriot Side restricting traffic to a single lane at their side of the crossing point.
President Ersin Tatar stated that the meetings will continue with the relevant parties and he will follow up the issue to ensure faster crossings.
