President Ersin Tatar participated in the 19 August World Photography Day event organised by officials of the Deputy Prime Ministry and the Department of Environment that is connected to the Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Culture.
Delivering an address at the event that was held at the Atatürk Cultural Centre, President Tatar said: “Photography is the use of technology that combines art, science and creativity, which allows a photographer to capture history and events in the lives and moments of people. Photographs are in fact a universal language in themselves and can touch people in a way words may not. Whilst some photographs enable us to see beauty, others can cause emotions of happiness or sadness. Photographs can also show pain and suffering. They are a snapshot of that very moment and can be of invaluable importance.”
President Tatar added that the “impact of photographs taken with old cameras in the past was completely different when compared to the high-resolution photographs that people can easily take with the use of cameras and even mobile telephones today”.
Reminding that the photographs taken by the photographer immortalise the moment, President Tatar added: “The struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people to exist in these lands in the face of attacks will also be carried to the future as a memory through photographs.”
The President presented awards to photographers who participated in the event for their work and service.
