President Ersin Tatar meets with Afyonkarahisar Cyprus veterans
President Ersin Tatar has met with the Cyprus veterans as part of his Afyonkarahisar contacts.

President Tatar met and had dinner with 211 Cyprus veterans within the scope of the Afyonkarahisar Cyprus Veterans Meeting Programme.
Speaking at the meeting where the martyrs were commemorated, President Tatar said that he was honored to be with the Cyprus veterans 49 years after the Cyprus Peace Operation.
"If the Turkish Cypriot people live in peace, tranquility and security today, under the roof of their own State and Flag, they owe it to the martyrs and veterans," President Tatar said. He pointed out that it is due to the "sacrifices paid by our martyrs and veterans that the rights and interests of the Republic of Türkiye and the Blue Homeland are protected".
President Ersin Tatar added: "Turkish soldiers are the security and life-line of Turkish Cypriot People. We shall never consent for them to leave the island." President Tatar recounted the famous words of the founder and Great Leader of the Republic of Türkiye, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, where he said: "Independence is our character."
Stating that Türkiye and the TRNC are very close, and that the TRNC has taken steps towards international recognition with the support of Motherland Türkiye, President Tatar stressed that the President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, invited the international community to formally recognise the TRNC at the 77th and 78th sessions of the UN General Assembly. He said the TRNC has become an observer member at the Organisation of Turkic States, and pointed out that the Turkish Cypriot people are looking to the future with hope.
The President concluded his address by paying respects to the martyrs and veterans, and expressed his gratitude and respect.
