President Ersin Tatar participated in a conference titled "Youth Meeting” which was held within the scope of the programme of the International Symposium of the Turkic World at the Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University Library.
President Tatar expressed his gratitude to Binali Yıldırım, Deputy Chairman of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) and Chairman of the Aksakallar (Whitebeards) Council of the Organisation of Turkic States (TDT) for hosting this important meeting.
Extending the warm greetings of the Turkish Cypriot People, the President emphasised the importance of solidarity and cooperation between Turkic States, adding that he is “continuing to work with the full support of the Republic of Türkiye for the TRNC to take its rightful place in the Organisation of Turkish States as an observer member”.
Stating that due to the opportunities provided by new technology in the fields of transportation and communication, Turkic states are “developing relations as each day passes,” President Tatar continued:
“Artificial barriers that were placed between Turkic states have now completely disappeared due to mass technological advances which has presented new opportunities. In this respect, Turkic states are developing relations and have strong bonds in this geography. Taking steps to further our relations will undoubtedly serve the best interests in improving the welfare and prosperity of all our peoples.
“Important work awaits us following our membership as observer members of the Organisation of Turkic States. There exists an annual expenditure of only $18 billion out of the $700 billion trade that exists between Turkic countries, whilst the majority of trade is conducted with other countries. I believe that the joint decisions, to be taken with the convergence of the Organization of Turkish States in the coming years will expand this existing trade volume.”
Expressing that it is an “honour for me to be the President of the TRNC”, President Tatar noted that the “most important thing is to be able to work in collaboration with Motherland Türkiye with regards to national policies”.
President Tatar, referring to the importance and the size of the Republic of Türkiye, continued: “Under the leadership of the Republic of Türkiye, very important opportunities will be given to all Turkic states. The Republic of Türkiye is an important and successful country, that is able to lead all Turkish states with its achievements in every field.”
In his speech, Mr Yıldırım said: "We are determined to work together with all Turkic states and regional countries, in particular Türkiye, for the further development of common welfare, security, peace and brotherhood.”
Stating that their primary goal is the full integration of the common alphabet, history, geography, transportation and communication infrastructure, Mr Yıldırım added: “Aside from one or two exceptions, freedom of movement between Turkic states has started without any hindrance. We are at the very beginning and much work lies ahead. As former President of
Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev had stated: “We are one nation, two states”. This statement clearly explains everything. He states that boundaries are not important between brothers. Now we are not one nation, two states, but more states. Northern Cyprus, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and six states, but we are one nation. The number will increase even more in the future.”
Pointing out that the aim of the organisation is to bring long geographic distances closer, to make borders symbolic, to integrate economies, culture, history and language, Mr Yıldırım said: "When we are able to achieve this, we will also improve the peace, security and prosperity of the region. In our culture, we do not have a colonial understanding. There is no colony in our history. In our understanding, there is happiness, prosperity, security and brotherhood in the future of the Organisation of Turkish States and the Turkic world."
