The ceremony ended with the signing of the Martyrs Memorial Book by President Tatar.
The message in the book by President Tatar writes:
“Dear Sacred Martyrs,
We are in your presence once again on the 49th anniversary of the 20 July Peace Operation, which took place at the expense of your great heroism, sacrifice and life.
As the heroic sons of the glorious Turkish Army, you became martyrs in these lands for the freedom, independence, honour and dignity of the Turkish Cypriot People.
The Turkish Cypriots are today living in freedom and as a sovereign People under the roof of their own State, under their own flag in their own homeland, because of the struggle you have waged at the cost of your lives.
The Turkish Cypriot People will never forget the sacrifices made by our dear martyrs. Your cherished memories will live on forever in this land that we know as our homeland.
This homeland and this State that you have entrusted to us will be protected forever, and our national struggle will be passed on from generation to generation.
