President Ersin Tatar has participated in the ceremony marking the 86th anniversary of the passing of the Great Leader, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, which was held before the Atatürk Monument in Lefkoşa.
Following an observance of a minute's silence and the playing of the National Anthem where the flags of the Republic of Türkiye and TRNC were lowered to half-mast, the President laid a wreath at the monument, and signed the Memorial Special Book, which reads:
"Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the Great Leader of the Turkish nation,
We remember you with great love, respect and longing on this special day. Although you physically left us, the spirit of your struggle, creations and principles that you bequeathed to us have been illuminating our path for 86 years. I am sure that future generations will follow the path you have shown with the same determination and will be the guardians of our Republic by protecting its principles and reforms.
In the light of your foresight and will and testament, we shall always be attentive to Cyprus for the survival of Türkiye and the Turkish nation, and we will continue to work arduously. As Turkish Cypriots, we shall carry your love in our hearts like an eternal flame and carry your vision as our own.
Great leader Atatürk! While your humble body lies in eternal sleep in the land of your beloved homeland, your thoughts and principles illuminate the path of the Turkish nation, of which we are always honoured to be a part of. Rest in peace as the Great Republic of Türkiye, which you called "my greatest creation", continues its existence and is standing strong.
May your soul rest in eternal peace."
