President Ersin Tatar expressed his gratitude to the Republic of Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan which has made the Turkish Cypriot people “stronger” after he referred to the need to have sovereign equality and equal international status as a basis of negotiations in Cyprus.

The Turkish President had made the statements during his address at the 15th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organisation, held in Ashgabat, the capital of the Republic of Turkmenistan.


President Tatar thanked his Turkish counterpart “for being the voice of the Turkish Cypriot people and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus”.

 

President Tatar's statement is as follows: 


"After seeing that a federal based solution is not possible in Cyprus, our new vision for a settlement that is based on two separate sovereign States was put forward by us for the first time at the informal meeting in Geneva, Switzerland. This continues to be on the agenda at present. In his speech at the 15th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organisation, Republic of Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called for ‘all friendly and brotherly countries to evaluate the proposals put forward by the TRNC vision without prejudice’. This has added to our strength.   


In his speech, President Erdoğan also stated that ‘registration of the Turkish Cypriot people’s sovereign equality and equal international status is key for reaching a solution in Cyprus’.  He called on brother countries to take effective action to end the unjust isolation and restrictions imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people. 

President Erdoğan was the voice of the Turkish Cypriot people in his speeches and calls he made at the 76th General Assembly meetings of the United Nations on September 22, 2021 and 8th Summit of the Turkic Council Heads of State on November 12, 2021.   


Motherland Turkey always stands by the Turkish Cypriot people and the TRNC. On behalf of myself and my people, I would like to express our gratitude to President Erdoğan with my deepest and most sincere feelings, who has always, irrespective of the circumstances, stands by the Turkish Cypriot people and the TRNC. The Turkish Cypriot people will always continue to walk together with Motherland Turkey.
