President Ersin Tatar receives London Rauf Raif Denktaş Turkish School Principle Meryem Biricik and school delegation
President Ersin Tatar held a meeting with the London Rauf Raif Denktaş Turkish School Principle Meryem Biricik and the accompanying delegation.

President Tatar paid tribute to the work of Turkish language and culture schools in the UK and the London Rauf Raif Denktaş Turkish School. He referred to his visit to the Turkish Cypriot Culture Festival, which took place in London on July 2, with the participation of about 25,000 people. President Tatar said that he visited the school’s stand at the festival. Mrs Biricik invited the President to visit the school on his next visit to the UK.
President Tatar expressed his gratitude in observing that teachers appointed from the TRNC are serving Turkish schools in the UK, alongside teachers and volunteers at the schools, as part of efforts aimed at teaching children and the youth the Turkish language, their history, folklore and culture.
Pointing out that many Turkish Cypriots live in various parts of the world and particularly in London, President Tatar indicated his pleasure that Turkish Cypriot parents living abroad are sending their children to Turkish schools and taking part in the activities held by Turkish Cypriot Associations. The President underlined the importance of passing on our own culture and traditions to the future generations.
President Tatar stated that the TRNC is resolute in helping schools by providing teachers, adding that "people are becoming closer and distances are shortening as a result of the developments in communication and technology".
He said it is important to make use of the opportunities of our era and to strengthen bonds of those living abroad with the TRNC, and to convey our traditions and culture.
President Tatar pointed to the investments made in the TRNC by those living abroad, particularly in the UK and Australia, and highlighted the developments in fields of education, tourism, services and agriculture.
The President added: "It is of high importance that the Turkish Cypriot children living abroad learn the Turkish language, their culture, and to love their country, the TRNC . . .At this point, teachers play significant roles. TRNC is our homeland, our freedom and liberty. I would like to extend my warmest wishes to all teachers, families and children living in the UK and in your school. I thank you for your visit."
London Rauf Raif Denktaş Turkish School Principle Meryem Birinci extended the best regards of teachers, students and families from London. She conveyed the activities carried out in order to maintain Turkish Cypriot culture and traditions and said that the school is open weekly every Saturday. "As one of the biggest Turkish schools in London, our aim is to teach our children the Turkish language, folklore and culture," she said.
