President Ersin Tatar received the Federation of All Bureaucrats and Businessmen Federation (TÜMBİFED) Chairman Mehmet Hüsrev and his accompanying delegation.
The President stated that the TRNC is a relatively young State, which has been proclaimed following the just struggle of the Turkish Cypriot People to protect their inherent rights and sovereign equality in the face of attempts by the Greek Cypriots to unite Cyprus with Greece.
“Next year marks two important anniversaries. On one hand, we shall commemorate the centenary of the establishment of the Republic of Türkiye, founded by Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and the 40th anniversary of the proclamation of the TRNC,” President Tatar said.
Stating that the “ties between Türkiye and the TRNC have continued to grow stronger over many years", the President added that “Motherland Türkiye has made important strides and great progress and has become an important global player and regional power”.
President Tatar added that he attributes great importance to the opening of new representative offices and branches in the TRNC of different institutions and organisations from the Republic of Türkiye.
“In order for us to continue our existence as a Turkish State in this geography, our sovereignty and equal international status must be accepted,” President Tatar said. “Only in this way can we make international agreements. We are sharing our new policy and the reasons we have arrived at this point with the international community, with the full support of the Republic of Türkiye. The basis of holding negotiations for a federal based solution have been exhausted, because of the mentality that prevails in the Greek Cypriot Side. We are putting forward a proposal for a two State basis that provides for a realistic and sustainable settlement.”
Explaining that the TRNC was admitted as an observer member to the Organisation of Turkic States, the President said that “the two State policy and the support of Türkiye has started to produce tangible outcomes for our country”.
President Tatar added that he places “great importance on increasing the number of contacts and cooperation at all levels, because these are instrumental in promoting the recognition and acknowledgement of the TRNC”.
Commending TÜMBİFED for their “outstanding work” in the Republic of Türkiye, President Tatar said: “Your work will add strength to our People. You are undertaking great projects. Sharing this experience and knowledge with us is an important value for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. It is our greatest wish to glorify all these and build a more prosperous life.”
