President Ersin Tatar: “There is no invitation from the UN Secretary-General for a tripartite meeting. Christodoulides is after creating a fait accompli”
President Ersin Tatar said that there is no question of starting negotiations on the Cyprus issue without the reaffirmation of the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish side.
Stating that the stance of the Turkish Cypriot side on this issue is very clear and unambiguous, President Tatar emphasised that there will definitely be no return to negotiations on the federal basis.
President Tatar said: “No one should expect negotiations to start from the point that was left in Crans Montana. The search for a federal solution ended in Crans Montana. There is no common ground for the negotiations to start again on the Cyprus issue. While the fact that there is no common ground is crystal clear, there is no need for a tripartite meeting or any other format."
The President added that the Greek Cypriot Leader, Nikos Christodoulides, is trying to create a fait accompli, and denied his claims for a tripartite meeting.
President Tatar said: "There is no invitation from the UN Secretary-General Antonio Gutteres for a tripartite meeting. In any case, under the current conditions, we would not approve a tripartite meeting. There is no basis for such a meeting. Our stance on the conditions under which negotiations can begin is unambiguous. Negotiations cannot begin without our sovereign equality and equal international status being reaffirmed and registered. The Greek Cypriot side are once again playing games. No such invitation has been sent to us. The intention of the Greek Cypriot side is to create a perception and try to put pressure on the Turkish side. We will not fall for these games. Christodoulides should stop pursuing empty dreams and start to take into consideration the realities on the island.”
President Tatar, drawing attention to the fact that Christodoulides is constantly trying to create a perception and put the Turkish side in a difficult position, said: “These are futile efforts. The Turkish side knows very well what it wants. We are implementing our positions on the Cyprus issue in full cooperation and harmony with Motherland Türkiye. Furthermore, we are disrupting the games being played by the Greek Cypriot side and we shall continue to do so.”
