President Ersin Tatar visited the monument of Dr. Fazıl Küçük in Lefkoşa, where he told the press that he has instructed the General Directorate of Police to take legal action against the suspect who has directed insults and used contemptible language towards Dr. Fazıl Küçük causing outrage in the country.
Flanked by a large group of Presidential staff, the President said he “condemned in the strongest possible manner” those who have “insulted our leader -- who led the struggle of the Turkish Cypriots for freedom and independence.”
President Tatar said there has been an attempt by some to use the latest incident as a pretext to “cause discord” between Turkey and the TRNC, adding: Some are trying to create an unnecessary agenda. . .but they will not be able to succeed.”
Stating that yesterday he made a statement on this issue and summoned Police General Director Ahmet Soyalan to his office to give him instructions to take the necessary legal actions, the President reaffirmed that “the necessary legal action is being taken on the matter”.
President Tatar emphasised that Dr. Küçük had taken on the ‘leadership role’ in the national struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people to coexist in Cyprus and had undertaken organising the resistance to defend the people. “It is because of the great sacrifice, determination and love for his people that Dr. Küçük was able to organise the Turkish Cypriots, and enabled us to reach these days,” the President said.
“AS THE PRESIDENT OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE ACHIEVED ALL THESE, I WANT THE WHOLE WORLD TO KNOW THAT INSULTS TO OUR PAST, OUR HISTORY AND OUR NATIONAL LEADERS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE”
President Tatar stated that the Turkish Cypriot people have announced to the whole world prior to the five-plus-UN informal meeting to be held in Geneva, Switzerland in April 27-29, that a sustainable settlement can be established with the cooperation of two independent States based on sovereign equality in Cyprus, adding: "As the President of people who have achieved all these, I want the whole world to know that insults to our past, our history and our national leaders can never be acceptable. "
Following the visit to the Dr. Fazıl Küçük monument, the President and his entourage also visited the nearby Dr. Küçük museum.
