President Ersin Tatar has paid a visit to the headquarters of Turkish Bank UK located in central London, where he met with the group executive director Erhan Raif and UK Chief Operating Officer Phil Sowter.
President Tatar paid tribute to the success of Turkish Bank, stating: “I am happy to be visiting the headquarters of Turkish Bank UK headquarters and to have learnt of the important successes and growth of the bank – which has a long-standing history of 122 years. Turkish Bank is an important bridge between the TRNC and the UK in the financial and technological areas and has access to various financial instruments. The bank is also important in that it represents the existence of TRNC in the international financial centre. The success of the bank has come about through vision and devotion, having grown from a branch in Haringey, north London to a major bank.”
Paying tribute to the founders of Turkish Bank which was established in Lefkoşa, the President emphasised that the growth of the bank has come about “through vision and devotion, and the injection of capital into the bank in the City of London”.
President Tatar, who also was shows the different departments of the bank and met with the staff, wished the bank success in its development of new services and incentives for young entrepreneurs and in the technological field, adding that as he had "stated at the 6th Turkish Cypriot Cultural Festival yesterday, the UK is home to the same number of Turkish Cypriots as in the TRNC and it is important to provide incentives for business and investments for our people".
Mr Raif thanked the President for his visit to the headquarters and said it is the first time a TRNC President has paid a visit to Turkish Bank UK headquarters and branch, adding that he has known the President for many years.
“We are proud to be a Bank that began its life in Lefkoşa and is today a British Turkish Cypriot Bank," he said.
Mr Sowter said that it is a privilege and honour to meet the President and to exchange ideas about the innovative steps being taken by the bank in technology, finance and investments, which he said will “secure a good future for the bank for the next 50 years”.
