President Ersin Tatar’s father passed away early on Saturday morning.

Rüstem Tatar, who has undertaken important duties and played important role in every stage of the national struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people, lost his life early this morning. His funeral will take place later on Saturday in Nicosia Cemetery, with the participation of close family pursuant to the coronavirus measures.

  

RÜSTEM TATAR'S BIOGRAPHY

 
 
Rüstem Tatar was born on 23 October 1930 in the village of Yakacık in Paphos. Completing his primary education in 1941, Rüstem Tatar graduated from the College Branch of the Cyprus Turkish Islamic Boys' High School in 1947 ranking first in class. Rüstem Tatar, who passed all 8 stages of the London Matrucilation Exam in 1948 ranking first, graduated from the Department of Finance and Economics of Nottingham University in 1951 ranking first.
 
Rüstem Tatar, who did an internship at the Financial Consultancy Company Moore & Morell between 1951-55, received the Chartered Accountant diploma in first place from the British Financial Advisory Institute in 1955.
 
Returning to Cyprus in 1955, Rüstem Tatar started to work as 1st Class Treasurer-Inspector Department Chief in the Revenue Office, and he was among the founders of the Turkish Civil Servants Institution and served as the Secretary General. He served as the Manager of the Audit Office between 1958-59. Rüstem Tatar, who married Canev in 1959, had two sons, Ersin and Erhan, from this marriage.
 
Whilst Rustem Tatar was a member of the Turkish Cypriot delegation in the negotiations for the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus, he became the first Auditor General of the Republic of Cyprus which was established in 1960 with the equal partnership of the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot peoples.
 
 
 
He represented the Republic of Cyprus in the meetings of the Presidents of the International Court of Accounts in the 1960-63 period. Rüstem Tatar continued his duty until the Greek Cypriots attacks targeted Enosis on December 21, 1963. Rüstem Tatar took part in the financial and accounting fields in the General Committee, which was established as the administrative and executive body of the Turkish Cypriot people in January 1964, after the exclusion of the Turkish Cypriots from the governing bodies of the Republic of Cyprus by force of arms during the Bloody Christmas(Kanlı Noel) attacks. In addition to these duties, he also served as the Head of the Department of Inspection and the President of the Turkish Civil Servants Cooperative Savings Bank Ltd during the 1964-1967 period. Rüstem Tatar lost his wife Canev in 1968 and he and his family sorrowed.
 
Rüstem Tatar served as the Minister of Finance and Budget Affairs in the Temporary Turkish Cypriot Administration, the Turkish Cypriot Administration and the Autonomous Turkish Cypriot Administration between 1967-1975.

Rüstem Tatar founded Tatar & Co Company in 1976 and worked as an Independent Financial Advisor and Auditor. Between 1976-77, he also worked as the Financial Advisor of Turkish Cypriot Airlines.
 
 
 
Rüstem Tatar also served as the Special Advisor to the Economy and Finance of the President of the Turkish Cypriot Federated State in 1977. He chaired the Turkish Cypriot delegation that carried out KTFD-EEC contacts between 1977 and 81. Moreover, he served as a Board Member, Vice President and Deputy General Manager of Cyprus Turkish Tourism Enterprises during 1977-81.
 
In 1977, he married İsmet Ertuğrul and had third child, Havva Tatar. They have five children together with Ertuğ and Necat Ertuğrul in total.
Between 1984-2005, Rüstem Tatar served as the Turkish Cypriot Representative of the Committee of Missing Persons in Cyprus, formed under the auspices of the United Nations.
Rüstem Tatar, who also served as the President of the TRNC Chartered, Certified and Certified Public Accountants Association, has provided consultancy and significant contributions to the state after 2005 on many issues.
 
Rüstem Tatar, who had great services to his people and his state, left behind great success and services. The Turkish Cypriot people will not forget him
