President Tatar: “Radios played an important role in the years when Turkish Cypriots were struggling for existence”
President Ersin Tatar participated in a virtual meeting with the representatives of radio stations based in the TRNC and expressed his evaluations about the future of radio broadcasting in the TRNC.

Stressing the important role radios played during the years when the Turkish Cypriots were struggling for existence, President Tatar recalled his childhood memories and pointed out the importance of radio as a news source in those times when there was no television and no internet. The President stated that in order to enable the radios to continue with their activities, he would be ready to provide all necessary support for the upgrading and adaptation of the radios to meet present day requirements.
Stating that projections should be made on how radios can be carried forward to the future as important communication tools, President Tatar thanked the individuals who have devoted their lives to radio broadcasting and commemorated those who are not alive.
The President expressed hope that he can meet the representatives of radio stations broadcasting in the TRNC in person – as soon as the pandemic has passed, and he congratulated the radio administrators and employees who have been undertaking a great mission for the future of the TRNC and to have the voice of the Turkish Cypriots heard and said he wishes them success in their efforts.

President Ersin Tatar stated that radio broadcasting in our country has reached the public by developing both in the public and private sectors since Bayrak Radio started broadcasting in 1963 and stated that radios have an important place as a mass communication tool.
Stating that radios are popular with people and widely listened to especially in vehicles, President Ersin Tatar also said that with the widespread use of the internet, radios are now also broadcasting worldwide.
Stating that he is willing to provide all the necessary assistance for effective broadcasting variety and for the infrastructural development of radios, President Tatar stated that radios are an important channel in mass communication and they are less costly than television.
Representatives of the radio stations broadcasting in the TRNC indicated that they are happy to have an online meeting with President Ersin Tatar and thanked the President for his interest. Indicating their expectations on the issues of broadcasting variety and infrastructural problems, the radio administrators said they believed that President Tatar, who is experienced and has knowledge with regards to television and radio broadcasting, will do his best to resolve their problems.
