Restoration of the historical Lefkoşa walls is underway
President Ersin Tatar inspected the works initiated for the restoration of the damaged walls of Lefkoşa. President Tatar, who received information about the work from the authorities, stated that he was very impressed by the technical knowledge of both the company that won the tender and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) personnel who undertook the implementation of the project, and expressed his belief that the work to be carried out will be successful.

In his statement on the subject, President Tatar said: “The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus hosts very important works in terms of cultural heritage. These works are also part of the world heritage. I attach great importance to and support the regular maintenance of Cultural Heritage works as well as their restoration. I congratulate the Bilateral Cultural Heritage Technical Committee and all those who contributed to its work towards this goal."
During the visit, President Ersin Tatar was accompanied by Special Representative Güneş Onar, Chief Advisor Aydın Akkurt, Confidence Building Measures and Bilateral Technical Committees Coordinator Seniha Birand Çınar, Bilateral Cultural Heritage Technical Committee Member Özge Samioğlu, UNDP staff and officials of the company that undertook the restoration.
The restoration work, which is under the responsibility of the Bilateral Cultural Heritage Technical Committee and costs a total of 200 thousand Euros, is expected to be completed in March 2024.
