Special Representative of the President M. Ergün Olgun meets with the Deputy Permanent Representative for United Nations in France, Ambassador Nathalie Estival-Broadhurst

During the meeting held at the Permanent Representation of France in New York, Special Representative of the President Ergün M. Olgun expressed to his interlocutor that the situation, which has become even more fragile recently, especially in the Eastern Mediterranean region, carries the risk of going in a direction that no one desires, as a result of the Greek Cypriot's armament efforts. He stated that France's sale of arms to the Greek Cypriot side may lead the Greek Cypriot leadership to take an even more aggressive and courageous attitude, and that the decision of the US to lift the arms embargo left us no choice but to take a counterattack with the support of the Motherland, Republic of Türkiye.

Olgun stated that the Turkish Cypriot Side’s six cooperation proposals that were conveyed to the Greek Cypriot Side via the UN Secretary-General is based on a win-win philosophy for both Sides in Cyprus in order to create a cooperative environment both on the island and in our region and he added that the support of France for the implementation of these proposals is expected.

Special Representative Olgun also shared with his interlocutor that a new political process can only be possible with the reaffirmation of the sovereign equality and equal international status, which is the inherent right of the Turkish Cypriot people.

Alongside Special Representative Olgun, Confidence Building Measures and Bilateral Technical Committees Coordinator Güneş Onar and TRNC Washington Representative Office Third Secretary Denil Ertuğ Akın were present in the meeting.
