President Ersin Tatar issued a written statement in support of Azerbaijan following the developments in Karabakh where he emphasised the respect and support  of the Turkish Cypriot People to the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

President Tatar, who issued the statement from New York where he is visiting for the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, said the TRNC "stands in full solidarity and supports the Republic of Azerbaijan" in its "anti-terrorist operation that is solely targeting military elements, that are a threat to the national security and territorial integrity of the country".

President Tatar stated that Armenia is in violation of the November 10, 2022 tripartite statement that was signed by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia and President of the Russian Federation, and he invited the Armenian Government to implement the respective provisions of the said statement.

 
The statement of President Tatar reads as follows:

“The continued presence of Armenian armed groups in Azerbaijan's Karabakh region, contrary to the provisions of the tripartite statement signed on November 10, 2020, poses a serious threat to regional peace and stability.

We support the anti-terrorism operation of Azerbaijan that is solely targeting military elements,  which has been launched in order to maintain the safety and security of civilians who returned to the territories liberated from the occupation, to neutralise and free the area from military elements, to exclude Armenian armed groups from Azerbaijan through disarmament and to adhere to the provisions enshrined within the tripartite statement.

As stated by Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of the Republic of Türkiye during his address at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly,  Karabakh forms part of the territories of Azerbaijan and is an inseparable part of the country.

We convey our continuous support as the Turkish Cypriot People for the righteous struggle of our brothers in Azerbaijan and President İlham Aliyev, and invite Armenia to act in compliance with the decisions of tripartite statement so as to maintain peace, security and permanent stability in the region.”
