President Ersin Tatar has ordered a full and immediate investigation into the incident that took place at the Glapsides beach in Gazimağusa involving two personnel of the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces (UNFICYP), following media reports of damage and violence.
Special Representative M. Ergün Olgun, who held a meeting with UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Cyprus and Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces in Cyprus Colin Stewart, has requested a speedy investigation into the incident in a serious manner by UNFICYP with full cooperation of the TRNC authorities.
During the meeting, Mr Stewart stated that he is aware of the seriousness of the incident and said the UN Military Police is ready to carry out the necessary work in cooperation with the General Directorate of Police.
President Ersin Tatar will continue to follow the matter and all developments with regards to the impartial investigation that will be carried out in consultation with TRNC authorities, and the implementation of the actions to be taken
