Statement of President Ersin Tatar on the vital grain shipment agreement signed between the two warring countries, Ukraine and Russia, following negotiations mediated by Türkiye and the UN
“The grain shipment agreement will not only have a positive impact for the region, but to the whole world and to countries that have suffered from the disruptions to the food supply chain stemming from the consequences of war. . ."
“Following intensive efforts and negotiations mediated by Motherland Türkiye and the UN, I welcome the signing of the historical grain shipment agreement between the two warring countries, Ukraine and Russia, which will end the blockade and allow grain produce to be shipped to world markets via the Black Sea.
This agreement, which emerged as a result of great effort, insistence and determination of President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, will not only have positive effects for the region, but also to many countries in the world that have suffered as a result of the disruptions in the food supply chain that has come about due to the war.
The international community has felt the magnitude and global effects experienced in food supply due to the war and the complications arising from these problems. The fact that millions of people face the danger of starvation due to the exorbitant increase in prices, which are indexed to this crisis on a global basis, shows just how important the agreement in question is with its humanitarian dimension.
The grain shipment agreement reached with the determination of Türkiye is also of significant importance with its political dimension.
This agreement, which has been signed by the two warring countries, offers hope for paving the way towards regional stability as well as acting as a beacon of hope for the end of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
I sincerely congratulate with all my heart all the pioneers of the agreement, which envisages the delivery of Ukrainian grain to world markets, and especially wish to extend my gratitude to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
While we hope that the grain shipment agreement will show all parties concerned that the region has the potential to be one of cooperation as opposed to conflict and suffering, I would like to reiterate my wish as the President of a people who have experienced the most destructive aspects of war, for diplomacy and dialogue to prevail over destruction and violence as soon as possible, and for peace to be restored to the region immediately."
