The message of President Ersin Tatar on  Eid-al-Fitr (Bayram)

President Ersin Tatar issued the following message in celebration of Eid al-Fitr, expressing best wishes to the Turkish Cypriot people, the Turkish nation and the Islamic world.

“I wish for Eid al-Fitr, which we are celebrating under the shadow of the Covid-19 pandemic that has affected the whole world, to bring with it benefits and blessings for the Turkish Cypriot people, the Turkish Nation and the entire Islamic World.

In these days, when we appreciate more the value of our relatives and loved ones from whom  we have had to distance ourselves  during this pandemic period, it is important for us to embrace human values such as love, tolerance, sharing and solidarity and to pass  these moral values on to the next generations.

I believe that we will overcome the unprecedented impact inflicted on the world by the pandemic  that has been going on for more than a year, through cooperation, unity and a show of solidarity. In the TRNC, we will overcome the difficulties by showing respect and love for each other as we did during the days of our struggle for existence.  With the support of Motherland Turkey, we successfully continue our struggle against the pandemic with the strengthening of our health infrastructure and the vaccination programme. I would like to once again express my gratitude and thank our healthcare professionals who work devotedly in this process and remind all of our citizens of the importance of adhering to the measures by wearing protective masks, observing social distancing and observing good hygiene.

On the occasion of such important day, which is the symbol of peace, compassion, prosperity and love, I once again condemn the continuing attacks of the Israeli Security Forces on the eve of Eid al-Fitr.  On behalf of myself and the Turkish Cypriot people,   I would like to express my hope that these inhumane and unjust acts of violence will end as soon as possible.  I wish God’s mercy on those who have lost their lives. May they rest in peace.  I extend heartfelt condolences of the Turkish Cypriots to the Palestinian people.

I would like to congratulate all my people on the Eid once again with a hope that better days will come with family members celebrating together,  when people will put aside their differences and reconcile and those who are separated from their loved ones because of  the pandemic or different reasons will reunite.”
