The second briefing and consultation meeting of the People's Council, established within the Presidency, was held under the chairmanship of President Ersin Tatar. While combatant associations attended the first People's Council briefing and consultation meeting, associations and non-governmental organisations were present at the second meeting held yesterday. Speaking at the meeting, President Tatar stated that their aim is to protect the state, sovereignty and people, and said "our love is the love of the homeland". 

“FEDERATION IS NOT POSSIBLE” 

In his speech at the council, President Tatar gave information about the 78th General Assembly Session meeting of the United Nations, New York contacts, the Cyprus issue and the latest developments in the region. 


President Tatar, while thanking the President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who once again called on the whole world to "recognise the TRNC and end the unfair embargoes imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people" at the 78th General Assembly of the UN, said the following: 

“During my contacts in New York and my meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, I re-explained our new policy on the Cyprus issue that we determined together with Motherland Türkiye. While stating that a solution based on a federal basis is not possible, I underlined that the only solution that will benefit the region and Cyprus is a solution based on the existence of two separate sovereign and equal states. I also stated that negotiations cannot begin without recognition of our equal sovereignty and equal international status.” 

President Tatar continued his speech as follows: 

“During the negotiation processes that continued for many years, and especially in the Annan Plan referendum and Crans Montana negotiations, it was seen that a solution based on a federal basis was not possible. After this, we put forward a new and national policy regarding the Cyprus issue. We are walking in determination on this path together with our Motherland Türkiye. The Greek Cypriot-Greek duo and their supporters are imposing on the federation and the negotiations to start from where they left off in Crans Montana. It is never possible for us to accept these. The understanding and goals of the federation of the Greek Cypriot-Greek duo and their supporters include removing the guarantorship of the Motherland Türkiye, removing the Turkish soldiers from Cyprus, destroying our state and making our people a minority by patching them into the Republic of Cyprus, which has turned into a Greek Cypriot state. We have resisted and will continue to resist them, we will not step back from our new and national policy." 

CRITICISM OF THE EUROPEAN UNION 

While President Tatar also criticised the European Union in his speech, "The EU did not fulfill even a single one of the promises it made to the Turkish Cypriot people who voted 'yes' in the Annan Plan referendum and he continued as follows: 

“The EU, which did not fulfill its promises, punished the Turkish Cypriot side that said 'yes' and rewarded the Greek Cypriot side that said 'no' by accepting it as a member. This is a great injustice. The Greek Cypriot-Greek duo, using EU membership, is also trying to impose the solution it wants through threats and blackmail. But these impositions are doomed to failure. Because Cyprus is no longer the old Cyprus. Motherland Türkiye is the largest and most powerful country in the region and is always with us. We will continue to protect our rights in Cyprus, the Eastern Mediterranean and the Blue Homeland together with our Motherland Türkiye. My call to the EU is to end its discriminatory attitude. "We are not going to bow to the Greek Cypriot side just because the EU and other powers want it." 

“WE, THE PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS STRONG” 

 In his speech, President Tatar gave information about the formation and work of the People's Council and said: 

“The Presidential People's Council was born out of a necessity. The main goal is to ensure unity and solidarity, to protect our state and sovereignty, to inform our people and to keep them alert against various threats and perception operations against our existence and against fifth column activities. Our information and consultation meetings will continue. We are the people and we are always strong.” 

“PROBLEMS WILL BE OVERCOME” 

 Stating that various social and economic problems have been experienced, as in other countries, with the covid epidemic that has affected the world and our country, President Tatar also pointed out that these problems are being overcome with the help and support of the Motherland Türkiye, and pointed out that the important thing is to ensure unity and solidarity. President Tatar said: 

“Our people have gone through very difficult times in the past. Just as we overcame those difficult days by trusting each other, with the spirit of unity and solidarity, I have full faith that we will overcome the ongoing problems with the same understanding and action." 

 

ISRAEL-PALESTINE WAR  

Drawing attention to the Israeli-Palestinian war in his speech, President Tatar said: 

 

"We are watching with concern this war and conflicts that will affect our region. My wish is that the problems will be solved through dialogue, not conflict and war. This is my expectation as the President of a people who have experienced wars and great pain. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also continues his efforts to put an end to these wars and conflicts. Meanwhile, the wars taking place in other parts of the world show us once again how important and necessary the guarantorship of the Motherland Türkiye is. For this reason, it is never possible for us to give up on Turkish soldiers with the guarantorship of Motherland Türkiye. If there is peace and tranquility in Cyprus today, we owe it to the Turkish army. May God protect and give strength to the Turkish army.” 

  

THEY EXPRESSED SUPPORT TO PRESIDENT TATAR  

Speaking at the meeting, Heads and Representatives of the associations and non-governmental organisations stated that they have full confidence and support in President Tatar and stated the following: 

“We support the new policy carried out together with the motherland Türkiye. The solution we want is not a federation, but a solution based on the existence of two separate states with equal sovereignty." 

In their speeches, heads and representatives of associations and non-governmental organisations expressed various problems experienced in the country, while also drawing attention to the importance of youth and education and making suggestions.
