UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab congratulates President Tatar
UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab called President Ersin Tatar and congratulated him on his election.
During the telephone conversation, President Tatar said that long-lasting and unsuccessful federation talks in Cyprus have come to an end and emphasized that a new page should be opened outside the current patterns for a solution in Cyprus. In the meeting, President Tatar conveyed to the UK Foreign Secretary Raab that the Turkish Cypriot people has authorized him to compromise with the Greek Cypriot side on the two sovereign states and noted that he will act accordingly towards this will.
President Tatar also pointed out that the outdated and unjust isolations imposed on the Turkish Cypriots should be lifted and stated that the restrictions applied especially in the areas of direct flight and sports are against fundamental human rights and freedoms.
When the issue of Varosha was mentioned by the UK Foreign Secretary, President Tatar explained that Varosha opening is in line with the relevant UN resolutions and international law and they envisage the return of the immovable properties to their owners.
The UK Foreign Secretary, on his part, stated that the UK is ready to assist the UN process in Cyprus.
