Ali Adalıer appointed as new Chief of Police at Presidential Ceremony

A formal ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace to confer rank upon Ali Adalıer, newly appointed Chief of Police. His insignia was presented jointly by President Ersin Tatar and his wife, Gülşen Adalıer.

In his address, President Tatar congratulated Mr. Adalıer on his appointment, praising his long and distinguished career within the police service and wishing him every success in his new role. The President underlined the importance of strengthening the force in line with the island’s growing population, emphasising the need for additional personnel and resources.

He also reflected on the significance of international engagement, recalling the recent informal meeting in New York, where he had raised issues of mutual concern to both sides, including cooperation in the fight against narcotics. He criticized the Greek Cypriot leadership for refusing such cooperation and for its unwillingness to work alongside the Turkish Cypriot police.

Stressing the importance of modern training, President Tatar also highlighted the need to harness technology to enhance policing. He concluded by expressing his hope that Mr. Adalıer’s appointment would bring strength and benefit to the nation.

Accepting his new role, Chief of Police Ali Adalıer expressed deep gratitude to the Commander of the Security Forces and to the state leadership for entrusting him with this responsibility. He described his appointment as a profound honour, made all the more meaningful as he succeeds former Chief Kasım Kuni, a figure he has long admired and respected.

Mr. Adalıer paid tribute to past leaders of the force and pledged to be worthy of the trust placed in him. “The police organisation will remain committed to human rights, to the principles and reforms of Atatürk, to democracy, and to the rule of law,” he affirmed. “We will continue to fight individual and organised crime effectively, serving our citizens with discipline, dedication, and an unwavering sense of duty.”
