Final farewell to President Ersin Tatar’s father, former Member of Parliament and Minister Rüstem Tatar

A ceremony was held in the Assembly of the Republic for President Ersin Tatar’s father, former Member of Parliament and Minister of Finance Rüstem Tatar, who lost his life today at the age of 90.

At the ceremony, which started with a moment of silence at 12.30, following the reading of Rüstem Tatar’s biography, the former Speaker of the Parliament and one of the Prime Ministers,  Hakkı Atun made a speech.

ATUN: “Rüstem Tatar was a visionary person who cares very much about the education”

The former Speaker of the Parliament and Prime Minister Hakkı Atun noted that Rüstem Tatar was a very close colleague. He expressed that it is an honor to speak of Rüstem Tatar who served the Turkish Cypriot people in this way.

Stating that they served with Rüstem Tatar during the 1960-1974 period, Atun noted that Rüstem Tatar’s mission was more difficult than all because he worked with and under the support of the Founding President Rauf Denktaş and that working in financial matters was not an easy task under the conditions of that day. Atun stated that Rüstem Tatar formed a systematic financial and administrative process.

Stating that 25 thousand immigrants, who were expelled from their villages, were brought to shelter successfully, which is one of the biggest resettlement project of immigrants, Atun said that Rüstem Tatar carried out his business with great dignity and confidence.

Stating that Rüstem Tatar, who has served alongside Denktaş for many years, was also with Denktaş as the Chairman of the Committee of Missing Persons after his retirement, Atun emphasized that Rüstem Tatar is a visionary person who cares very much about the education of his children and all the children of the society.

Atun also stated that Rüstem Tatar closed his eyes with the pride of raising a President and he said ‘May God rest his soul’, while conveying his condolences to all his family members.

SENNAROĞLU: “He delivered honorary duties participating in the struggle”

The Speaker of the TRNC Assembly Önder Sennaroğlu stated that Rüstem Tatar did not only witness the freedom struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people, but also personally participated in this struggle and served honorably.

Sennaroğlu wishing mercy to Rüstem Tatar and patience to all his relatives and loved ones, said that Rüstem Tatar served in the close team of Denktaş and he is one of the member of the team that has liberated the Turkish Cypriot people.  
 
The ceremony continued with the speech of the President of the Assembly of the Republic, Önder Sennaroğlu and ended with a moment of silence and respect passing in the order of protocol. 
 
The funeral of Rüstem Tatar was held at 14:00 in Nicosia Cemetery. 
 
The funeral ceremony held within the scope of Covid 19 measures; In addition to President Ersin Tatar and his first degree family relatives, President of the Assembly of the Republic Önder Sennaroğlu, Prime Minister Ersan Saner, Turkish Ambassador to Nicosia Ali Murat Başçeri, Cyprus Turkish Peace Force Commander Major General Sezai Öztürk, Security Forces Commander Major General Zorlu Topaloğlu, some ministers, some MPs, some party leaders and representatives attended. 
 
The funeral prayer was performed by the Head of Religious Affairs, Talip Atalay. 

The flags on which Rüstem Tatar's coffin was wrapped were presented to President Ersin Tatar by the Commander of the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces Zorlu Topaloğlu. 

Rüstem Tatar was buried with prayers.
