A book signing event was held for the book entitled “Cypriot Cuisine from Tradition to Future” book – the first of its kind published in Turkish and English under the Presidential Cultural Publications under the auspices of the Presidency and First Lady Sibel Tatar.

First Lady Sibel Tatar addressed the event that was held at Rüstem Bookshop in Lefkoşa, where she paid tribute to and congratulated the authors and everybody involved in penning the 316-page book, which she said “provides the reader a real insight about known and perhaps not-so-well known traditional recipes about the cuisine of the Island of Cyprus.”

“I wish to express my gratitude to chef and lecturer Mustafa Şah, Academician Prof. Dr. Tülen Saner and chef Erhun Ekinci for their fantastic efforts in writing this book, which has been published under the Presidential Cultural Publications,” First Lady Tatar said.

Pointing out that Turkish Cypriots have a rich culture, Sibel Tatar emphasised the “importance of transferring the accumulated knowledge to future generations as an archive in terms of contributing to the cultural heritage,” and added that “this book shall provide recipes and important information about our traditional cuisine and will be an important source and archive for our cultural heritage”.

Explaining that gastronomy is very important in tourism, Sibel Tatar noted that “dishes of Cyprus should be recorded in order to ensure that they can easily be accessible by all and passed down to future generations”.

Stating that the book titled “Cyprus Cuisine from Tradition to the Future” is the “first series of the Presidency of Culture Publications”, Mrs. Tatar stated that the “second book under this publication will be the “Cyprus Door and Chest Book” which is currently being published. She said the third book will be about Turkish Cypriot folklore music.
