First Lady Sibel Tatar continues her visits to Women’s Associations in Lefkoşa

First Lady Sibel Tatar is continuing her engagement with women’s organisations in Lefkoşa, as part of her broader commitment to empowering women and supporting the invaluable role of civil society in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Her visits are part of an ongoing series of meetings with member organisations of the Northern Cyprus Women’s Organisations Network.

Most recently, the First Lady paid a visit to the Association of Businesswomen (İKD) at its headquarters in Lefkoşa. She was warmly welcomed by Chairperson Bilen Sayılı Bozkırlı, the association’s founding chair Şenay Ekingen, founding members, the current executive board, and other members of the association.

The meeting provided an opportunity to share common aspirations for strengthening the role of women in social and economic spheres. Discussions also addressed current national developments, the promotion of entrepreneurship, employment opportunities for women, and the advancement of social responsibility initiatives.

In her remarks, Chairperson Bozkırlı expressed heartfelt appreciation for the First Lady’s interest and encouragement, stating: “Engagements that honour women’s voices and contributions are vital to fostering social cohesion and empowering future generations. We sincerely thank Sibel Tatar for her time, dedication, and unwavering support.”

As part of her continued outreach, the First Lady also visited three other prominent women’s associations in Lefkoşa:
The Association of Turkish Cypriot University Women, the Turkish Cypriot Women’s Union, and the Women Motorcycle Riders Association of Cyprus.

Her first visit was to the Association of Turkish Cypriot University Women, where she met with Chairperson Gülden Plümer Küçük and board members. She then proceeded to the Turkish Cypriot Women’s Union’s Lefkoşa Branch, where she was received by National President Halide Tunceri, Branch President Tomris Mahirel, and members of the executive committee.

The final visit was to the Women Motorcycle Riders Association of Cyprus, where the First Lady was welcomed by Chairperson Niyal Öztürk and board members.

Throughout these visits, Mrs Tatar was briefed on the organisations’ missions, ongoing initiatives, and future plans. She engaged in thoughtful exchanges on projects designed to promote social inclusion and the empowerment of women at all levels of society.

First Lady Tatar emphasised the indispensable role of civil society organisations in bringing community-based social projects to life. She underscored the importance of collaboration, structured advocacy, and grassroots engagement in building a stronger, more inclusive society.

As a token of appreciation, the First Lady was presented with a scarf bearing the emblem of the Cyprus Turkish Women’s Union, and a commemorative plaque from the Women Motorcycle Riders Association of Cyprus.

She was accompanied on her visits by Aydan Başkurt, Presidential Advisor for Social Policy.
