“The Turkish Cypriot people hold a profound love for Atatürk and a steadfast commitment to his ideals, which form an inseparable part of their national character.”

President Erhürman wrote the following in the Special Memorial Book:

“Esteemed Mustafa Kemal Atatürk,

Drawing inspiration from your leadership, which guided the Turkish Cypriot people in their historic struggle for existence, I stand before you today, deeply honoured and proud to serve as the sixth President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The Turkish Cypriot people remain steadfast in their commitment to the spiritual legacy you entrusted to us.

The leadership you displayed during the War of Independence, the Republic you established, and the principles and revolutions you bequeathed to us have guided not only the citizens of the Republic of Türkiye, but also the Turkish Cypriot people. Your far-sighted vision instilled hope and courage not only in your own nation, but in countless peoples through the ages — above all, in us Turkish Cypriots.

The deep affection for Atatürk of the Turkish Cypriot people and unwavering dedication to your ideals are integral to our national character. Even in the most trying periods, our people drew strength from your inspiration, preserving their resilience and continuing their struggle for a modern, free, and dignified life. Today, guided by the values of the Republic you established, we once again reaffirm our resolve to raise our country to the level of contemporary civilisations.

Guided by this awareness, the Turkish Cypriot people will continue to progress with contemporary values, productivity, education, culture, and ethics at the forefront. Your legacy transcends national boundaries, it represents a universal heritage of enlightenment for all humankind.

Before your cherished memory, I bow with respect, affection, and eternal gratitude.

May your soul rest in peace.”
