President Ersin Tatar accepts resignation of the government following his meeting at 3.30pm with Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu

President Ersin Tatar has accepted the resignation of the government which was submitted to him by Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu during his visit yesterday.
 
The President, who spoke to Türk Ajansı Kıbrıs (TAK), stated that Prime Minister Sucuoğlu  had, during his visit the previous day, handed him a letter asking for the President to approve the dismissal of Minister of Finance Sunat Atun.
 
He said he had informed the Prime Minister that he needed time, until the evening,  to make an assessment, evaluate  and make consultations, which was accepted by the Prime Minister.  He said the Prime Minister had again visited him on Wednesday afternoon and submitted the resignation of the government.
 
"Following legal consultations, I have arrived at the conclusion that the unilateral resignation is valid and I am obliged to implement this request,” President Tatar stated.   Noting that he met with Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu at 3.30pm today, President Tatar stated that he had also notified Dr Sucuoğlu of his acceptance of the resignation of the government.
 
In accordance with Article 106 of the Constitution,  President Tatar said he has asked Dr. Sucuoğlu and the three-party coalition to continue their service to the country until a new government is formed.
 
“I hope a new government will be formed as soon as possible as there is an economic crisis in the country.  It is significant that the recently signed economic protocol with Türkiye be implemented as soon as possible. I also shared  my opinion and concerns  regarding this issue with the Prime Minister,” the President said.
 
President Tatar also stated that he will hand the mandate for the formation of a new government tomorrow.
