President Ersin Tatar and the newly elected Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides met at the residence of the UN Secretary General's Special Representative for Cyprus and the UNFICYP Chief of Mission in Cyprus, Colin Stewart, in the buffer zone.

The informal "1+1" meeting commenced at 11.15am and ended at 1.05pm.  It is the first time the two leaders have come together following the election of Mr Christodoulides.

Colin Stewart, the UN Secretary General's Special Representative for Cyprus and the Head of Mission of the UN Peacekeeping Force (UNFICYP) in Cyprus, had visited President Tatar yesterday and the Greek Cypriot leader Christodoulides the previous day, as part of the preparations for the informal meeting.
