President Ersin Tatar attends memorial ceremony honouring six martyrs of the national struggle in Beyarmudu
"There will be no compromise on independence and freedom"
President Ersin Tatar, addressing those gathered at the memorial ceremony, paid tribute to the six individuals who fell during the national struggle in Beyarmudu, emphasising the hardships endured by the Turkish Cypriot people up to 1974. He reaffirmed that the sacrifices of the martyrs will forever be remembered and honoured.
Turning to the Cyprus issue, President Tatar reiterated his unwavering stance that independence and freedom are non-negotiable, underscoring that any just and lasting settlement must be founded on sovereign equality and equal international status.
He went on to stress that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus serves as a vital pillar of stability in the eastern Mediterranean, and stands as an element of peace and security in the region.
Commenting on the complexities of establishing a partnership with the Greek Cypriots, President Tatar remarked: “They continue to view us as a minority — something that was made abundantly clear during the informal meetings in New York.”
