President Ersin Tatar attends panel organised by Imperial College Turkish Society and Turkish Forum UK

President Ersin Tatar inaugurated a panel titled "Healthy Life After the Pandemic," organised by the Imperial College Turkish Society and Turkish Forum UK, that was moderated by Turkish Cypriot Cancer Biology Professor Mustafa Djamgoz.

Turkish Cypriot dietitian research assistant Dr. Aygül Dağbaşı was also a speaker at the panel. President Tatar also met and spoke with Turkish Cypriot students, and he congratulated them and wished them success.

In his address at the panel that was held on Friday that was held at Imperial College London Sir Alexander Flemming Building, President Tatar stated that he was honoured to be present at this meaningful meeting.

President Tatar stated that he is visiting London “to take part in the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the proclamation of the TRNC,” adding that “I have always believed that it is important to make use of every opportunity to represent the State and to explain the just cause of the Turkish Cypriot People”.

“I have a longstanding friendship with Prof. Dr. Mustafa Djamgoz that goes back to my student years in the UK,” President Tatar said. “I studied and worked in many different places in the UK, the Republic of Türkiye and the TRNC,” the President said. “If fate propels a person to succeed, and that person has a vision and works hard towards a goal, then success can be reached. I entered politics and I am today the President of the TRNC, which is a country seeking its rightful place in the international arena”.

President Tatar added: "I never resorted to pushing too hard in my life journey, however I have always been in a struggle. I wish to congratulate all the experts for their contributions to science and the Turkish world.

Reminding that he was the prime minister during the pandemic period, President Tatar spoke about the challenges that faced the TRNC, which heavily relies on tourism and agriculture, and the economic difficulties experienced at that time. He said despite some views that he ought to enforce a full lock down at the time, President Tatar said they had managed to put into place other measures without a full lock down so to minimise as much as possible the negative economic impact.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to London Osman Koray Ertaş and the TRNC Representative to London Çimen Keskin also attended the panel.
