President Ersin Tatar attended the event organised by the Northern Cyprus Society for the Protection of Turtles on June 5, World Environment Day, with the slogan “Let’s join hands and clean up the beach.”

In addition to President Ersin Tatar, Prime Minister Ersan Saner, Minister of Tourism and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu, members of Northern Cyprus Society for the Protection of Turtles, SITA officials and environmental volunteers attended the event where the Alagadi coast was cleaned.

In his speech, President Tatar stated that the zero waste project, which the Presidential Tourism and Environment Committee has been working on for a long time, is being promoted in the pilot region Tatlısu. The President expressed his belief that these habits and principles will spread all over the TRNC and a better environment will be left for future generations.

Reminding that non-governmental organisations working on the environment are constantly improving themselves by cooperating with universities from foreign countries and improving themselves and establishing international relations, President Tatar noted that despite the isolations and restrictions imposed, the message given is that the Turkish Cypriots are working with sensitivity to protect the world heritage.

President Tatar stated that turtles will be protected to lay their eggs by nesting on the coasts of our country, as in the past and today, as well as in the distant future.

“It is our duty to protect these world values and to serve humanity. Generations change, the important thing is to instill these values, awareness and sensitivity in young people and they acquire the same sensitivity and embrace these values. It is important that this beauty, which has been existing here for thousands of years, should be preserved for the future. The important thing is to protect these values responsibly entrusted to us by humanity. This is the message the TRNC gives to the world: We are from the world and our hearts beat to protect these values,” said the President.
