President Ersin Tatar commemorates the Alaminyo Martyrs: “Our people aged between six and 80 years were massacred in Alaminyo. These are clearly crimes committed against humanity.”

“Armed attacks were initiated by the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo in line with their Akritas Plan with the aim of exterminating the Turkish Cypriot people and realising the annexation of Cyprus with Greece (ENOSIS) between 1963 to 1974.   On July 15, 1974, the fascist Greek junta and its Greek Cypriot collaborators in Cyprus carried out a coup d’état in Cyprus and set about annihilating the entire Turkish Cypriot population.

The aim of the Greek military junta and the EOKA terrorists to annex Cyprus to Greece by declaring the 'Hellenic Republic of Cyprus' with the fascist coup d’état on July 15, 1974 came to an end with the Cyprus Peace Operation carried out by Türkiye  on the morning of July 20, 1974, which she was obliged to undertake as a guarantor country. One of the most heart-breaking crimes against humanity committed by the Greek military junta and the EOKA terrorists, in areas where there was no Turkish army, was experienced in the village of Alaminyo.

In the massacre of unarmed innocent civilians, we had people aged between six and 80 years who were slaughtered. This is brutality, clearly a crime committed against humanity.

In addition to Alaminyo, there were massacres of Turkish Cypriots in the villages of Taşkent, Atlılar, Muratağa and Sandallar, as well as the incidents that took place in Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos and other regions which are the undisputable testaments of Greek-Greek Cypriot barbarism and savagery. May our blessed martyrs rest in peace. Our heroes, you died for great cause, and we will not allow your deaths to be in vain.

As I underlined on the July 20 Peace and Freedom Day whilst commemorating the 48th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation, the most noble proof that the Turkish Cypriots, who won the struggle to live in freedom and to exist in their own country, can withstand all kinds of difficulties by standing shoulder to shoulder with Motherland Türkiye.

Due to the atrocities inflicted on the Turkish Cypriots for many years and the crimes committed against our people, the active and effective guarantee of the Republic of Türkiye and the actual presence of the Turkish Army in Cyprus are our red lines, and we shall never give up on these. We will tighten our bonds with Motherland Türkiye and continue our way. This is what we owe to our people and our martyrs.

Our greatest emanation of strength and assurance is the support given by our People to our new policy on the Cyprus issue which is also fully supported by Motherland Türkiye.

It is our most sacred duty to protect our State, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which the Turkish Cypriot people founded with great sacrifices and to protect our sovereignty and freedom. We owe it to our future generations.  May all our martyrs rest in eternal peace. I salute our veterans with respect and gratitude."
