President Ersin Tatar has issued a written message commemorating the 104th anniversary of the adoption of the National Anthem by the Turkish Grand National Assembly.

President Tatar stated the following in his written message:

“On behalf of myself and the Turkish Cypriot People, I most sincerely commemorate the 104th anniversary of our National Anthem that was adopted by the Turkish Grand National Assembly on March 12, 1921.

The National Anthem is sacred not only for the Republic of Türkiye and the Turkish nation -- with whom we are always together in sorrow, grief and joy, but also for the Turkish Cypriot People.

Our National Anthem is the symbol of our resistance. The Turkish Cypriot People started to recite the National Anthem immediately upon its adoption in 1921, despite the oppression and prohibitions of the British Colonial Administration, and will continue to do so as long as there is Turkish Cypriot presence in these lands.
Whilst commemorating the 104th anniversary of our National Anthem, I also wish to use this opportunity to pay my utmost respect and gratitude to our martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the War of Independence.  May they all rest in eternal peace.”
