President Ersin Tatar attended the commemoration ceremony held at the graveside of Former Parliamentary Speaker and Prime Minister of the Turkish Federated State of Cyprus Osman Nuri Örek on the 23rd anniversary of his demise.
 
 
President Ersin Tatar delivered a speech during the ceremony at the Lefkoşa Municipal Cemetary, emphasising  that Osman Nuri Örek, who was one of the closest friends of Dr Fazıl Küçük and Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş, was one of the invaluable  figures of Turkish Cypriot history.
 
 
 
“If we are continuing the two sovereign equal States policy in Cyprus today, the important names like Osman Nuri Örek have a great contribution to this,” President Tatar said. 
 
 
 
President Tatar mentioned Osman Nuri Örek's legal work for the Turkish Cypriot people to become partners on the island before 1960 and he added that the equal founding partnership of the Turkish Cypriots in the Republic of Cyprus was registered with an international agreement with the efforts of the then Prime Minister of the Republic of Türkiye, Adnan Menderes, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fatih Rüştü Zorlu.
 
 
 
President Tatar noted that Osman Nuri Örek was an important person  who made a great  contribution to the historical developments in those years.
 
 
 
President Tatar said: "If we are continuing the policy of two sovereign equal states, coexisting side-by-side in Cyprus today, important names like Osman Nuri Örek have a great contribution to this." He emphasised that the current policy is the right policy that will carry the Turkish Cypriot people to the future.
 
 
Explaining that in the past, Osman Nuri Örek had some ideas about transporting fresh water from the Republic of Türkiye which was opposed to by the Greek Cypriot side, President Tatar said: “It has been 23 years since Osman Nuri Örek departed from this world, and he was unable to witness the arrival of the fresh water piped to the TRNC from Anatolia."
