"With the work and coordination carried out, the Security Forces Command (GKK) from the TRNC, as well as the relevant teams of the Republic of Türkiye, effectively carried out search and rescue operations in difficult circumstances, in the air and on the ground, within their own sovereign areas," President Tatar said.

Expressing his gratitude to the GKK and the teams who participated from Motherland Türkiye, President Tatar said: “Search and rescue exercise is important in preparing personel in their responses to real-time emergency situations with the goal of saving lives. Such planning involves assessing the situation and determining a safe action plan, documenting the location of victims and implementing measures and procedures required to extradite the victims. I can therefore say that the Martyr Lieutenant Caner Gönyeli-2024 Search and Rescue Exercise has been a complete success, which makes us proud of the achievements we have seen by our teams today.”

President Tatar added: “The sovereign area of the TRNC is in the eastern Mediterranean. We have once again seen the successes that can be achieved in this exercise which has been conducted in cooperation with the Republic of Türkiye in territorial waters, continental shelf, and airspace. We observed with these exercises how search and rescue activities can be carried out much more effectively with the use of advanced technology and equipment.”

Stating that he met with the Minister of National Defence of the Republic of Türkiye and other force commanders on the occasion of the “50th Anniversary Panel of the Cyprus Peace Operation” held last week, President Tatar said: “We attach great importance to the Blue Homeland and to our air space and all of these demonstrate the geostrategic importance of the TRNC in the region.”

“We saw once again that we, as the TRNC, can help not only our own people, but also immigrants in international waters and in disasterous situations.” President Tatar said, adding: “I am very pleased and proud to have participated in the exercise, which has commemorated Martyr Lieutenant Caner Gönyeli. May he rest in eternal peace.”
