President Ersin Tatar pays visit to Afyonkarahisar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ATSO)

President Ersin Tatar paid a visit to the Afyonkarahisar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ATSO) where he participated in the "Business World Meeting" on Monday.

The President, who was accompanied by Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce Chairman Turgay Deniz, addressed the meeting where he paid tribute to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Türkiye, and commemorated the centenary of the founding of the republic. “I am very happy to be here in Afyonkarahisar,” President Tatar said. “Holding mutual visits are important for strengthening our relations,” he added.

“As the TRNC, we place great importance in establishing better relations with Motherland Türkiye across every field, as TRNC continues its path to a stronger future,” President Tatar said.

President Tatar explaineed that “the Turkish Cypriot People continue to face inhumane isolation and restrictions which is a great injustice". Describing relations between the TRNC and Türkiye as “pivotal,” President Tatar stated his wish to see more cooperation in the fields of tourism, education and agriculture.

Stating that the Island of Cyprus has been home to many different civilisations and empires, President Tatar said that the TRNC “has a rich and diverse culture and an abundance of historical sites to be seen. . .I call upon you all to visit our beautiful country”.

He added that the TRNC has created a strong structure in the field of education as well as tourism. President Tatar said that he will visit Kocatepe in Afyonkarahisar, where Atatürk launched the Great Offensive on August 26, 1922 during the Turkish War of Independence.

Pointing to the years of national struggle, President Ersin Tatar noted that, with the support of the Republic of Türkiye, the Turkish Cypriot People are today living under the roof of their own independent Republic.

The President explained that negotiations for a comprehensive solution under a federal basis that has been held for more than 50 years has been exhausted. He said the Turkish Cypriot Side, fully backed by the Republic of Türkiye, is putting forward a new policy for a two State settlement in Cyprus, that would allow for the two Sides to co-exist in peace in a cooperative relationship as good friendly neighbours.

President Tatar stated that he had recently staged a historic visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan and said that they the TRNC will continue to take a prominent place as a Turkish state in the eastern Mediterranean with the slogan of one nation, three states.

ATSO Chairman of the Board of Directors, Hüsnü Serteser, stated during his address at the meeting, that they saw the Turkish Cypriot People as being “completely inseparable” from the great Turkish nation. Mr Serteser also put forward information about exports between the two countries.

Meeting with veterans
Following his visit to ATSO, President Ersin Tatar also visited the Afyonkarahisar Branch of the Turkish War Disabled Veterans, Martyr Widows and Orphans Association. President Tatar spoke with the veterans and was presented with a certificate of appreciation for his visit and a commemorative photo was taken.
